We had debrief about a week ago. It was an exhausting week full of meetings and tough decisions. Leadership stinks…let’s just call it like it is.
As a leadership team we had to make some decisions regarding team changes as some team leaders were stepping down and others were stepping up.
It just so happened that the head honcho of The World Race came out to our squad debrief and he told me something that I’ll never forget.
“You need to start thinking about impact rather than friendship.”
It sounded extremely harsh at first. But he reminded me that this race is temporary. The ugly truth is that most friendships formed not he race won’t last beyond the plane ride home. But the decisions you make can often last a lifetime.
So we made some tough decisions. Tears were shed and words were freely given.
I didn’t know that Bill’s words were going to be such a challenge for me to practically be ok with after the fact. I had to remind myself that we made the decisions we did with pure hearts praying into what would have the most impact on God’s kingdom and the individual.
It also made me realize how short life really is. At the end of the day we should be more concerned about someone’s spiritual health than the health of our friendship.
