This past month could have easily been one of my favorite months on the race so far. Ecuador was filled with fun and lots of training to be a squad leader. Going with different teams to different ministries…one on ones with different people…getting lots of feedback…and countless simulations and scenarios for role playing.

I learned a lot and can’t wait to put it all into practice and to grow even more in leadership.

Our hosts were amazing this month and quickly became like family to many in our group. Getting to be with different teams and a few different ministries gave me some perspective on what it is like to be a missionary…or rather what it SHOULD be like.

It’s amazing how many families want to bless us this year by inviting us over for dinner. It’s even more amazing when they own a restaurant and cook a 7 course meal with deep fried yucca and chicken cordon bleu. Or when they make us brunch that consists of nonstop food from 10 to 1 in the afternoon.

This got me thinking…what in the WORLD are we doing for our missionaries? They come back to our churches and communities and give us a presentation about what they are doing for God’s kingdom. Then we send them on their way after maybe a family or two takes them out for lunch. You know what?!?! We do that anyways!!! Taking somebody out to eat isn’t that special.

People here eat chicken and rice every day of the year. But when missionaries come to town they cook chicken cordon bleu?!

What are we really sacrificing to bless the missionaries that come visit us in the States? What have I ever sacrificed for them? Not much…

This is a challenge to all if us to open our eyes to the mission God sends our brothers and sisters on. The tough living conditions some of us will never experience. The emotionally draining lives of standing in the gap for lost souls.

I say this now because I can. And when I get home I want to do better. Please do the same.

That is all 🙂 See you in Panama!
