I’m currently sitting at a huge table with an umbrella above me protecting me from the rain. The overcast sky and the gentle sprinkle make it feel like spring..the occasional breeze even makes me feel a little cold.
I like watching the rain hit the water. Each ripple adds to the melody that nature is singing right now. It’s always singing. I’m just not always listening. Each tree, flower, or a raindrop plays its part perfectly.
If nature is a symphony, then God is one heck of a composer
And a story is a lot like a song. Once it’s shared, you never know where it will go or what it will become. I can imagine the first word, the act of creation, and it makes me think of singing instead of speaking, like a perfect tone that is clearer and more beautiful than any singer could ever hope to aspire to, carried throughout the universe and even time, and I’m still able to hear the repercussions of that as I sit and ponder that note that began the song of life that surrounds me.
You might call me crazy, but I can’t help but feel like there is a part to this song that only I know the harmony to. It takes a certain ear to hear…I think that might be why Jesus always said “Whoever has ears to hear, let him listen.” He was talking about his teachings, but what do his teachings invite us to do?
To live. To love. To have compassion. To relieve suffering. To stop injustice. To be reconciled back to our creator.
Can you hear it? The part of the song made just for you? The part that springs from your heart and demands to be heard? The passion that fights to be free?
You were made to add to the song.
To be a part of the symphony.
To be an instrument of love unlike any other.
So sing, play, strum, pluck, yell, and whatever the heck else you can think of. Just do something! It might sound like crap at first. It will be hard. But it is something you practice simply by living as you were meant to. Living in relationship with your Father who IS love itself. The muse of all muses.
Open your eyes, your ears, and your heart, and sing with me.
