Have you ever been told that the path God has for you is a straight and narrow path? Me too. And, there is truth to that statement; biblical truth. But, I think a big misconception is that we visualize this path with no room on the left or the right to explore. Yes, we can’t stray out of His will, but how confined are we?

Imagine sitting on top of Pride Rock, just like Simba, and God showing you “the path”. What if He said “EVERYTHING THE LIGHT TOUCHES IS YOURS,” just like that land over the Klaserie River in Disney’s The Lion King? How much more could you explore than being confined to just going forwards or backwards? Yes, there are places the light doesn’t touch, and Simba was told never to go there, but everything else was his to enjoy.
This was a revelation shared with me by one of the leaders of the World Race. It has completely changed my perspective when I struggle to know if the next step I take in my life is God’s will. When I have a choice, I sometimes feel I will stray off the path and mess up my life. But, God allows us to have options. He gives us freedom to explore and enjoy His kingdom. If I have a choice to pursue something, or change my mind and try something else, God will still bless it as long as it’s within His domain.
I’ve been asked if doing the race was really what God intended for me. And whether it was or not, it is still within His ‘domain’ – doing His work, and seeking after Him. I’m so thankful that I’ve inherited all this kingdom just by being His son, and I’m grateful to know He loves me enough to give me choices, and that He’ll be with me through it all.
