So for the past week we have been doing house visits in the afternoons at Gautcupita.
Last week we were walking looking for someone to talk to, and we came across a humble old man.
His name was Migesu and he lived in a small shack and owned a few cows.
He is in his 70’s and has arthritis in his shoulders and knees.
We sat down with him and started up a good conversation. It went straight into a talk about God.
He believed in God but not heaven. His words were this.
“When you are alive, you have hope. When you are dead, you have no hope.”
To me that sounded insane! How could you have hope in this life knowing there is nothing after it and you live in a shack in poverty? But he still believed in God and he said he has even been healed by God.
We spent several afternoons talking to him, just sitting outside his home and getting to know him and talking about God. I grew close to him, God put him on my heart and I knew I needed to spend as much time with him as I could. So I began to ask him more about his views on heaven.
He said if anyone has been to heaven, he will wait for them to come and talk to him.
Now we told him that Jesus had already done that, but he was still confused.
So I stepped up and brought out my understanding of the gospel and started to explain heaven and how it works. He started to get it, with a big smile on his face and pointing his finger at his head.
He asked a lot about heaven, and turns out a lot of people have told him a lot.

He was so confused he did not know what was true; he even had pamphlets from preachers saying
San Juan will be destroyed for its sin. Too bad they did not take the time to get to know him and know he cannot read. We told him it was toilet paper (Funny Right?)
So as we keep talking to him about the grace of God and how Christ came to redeem us.
He began to understand the concept of heaven, and how giving your life to Christ and becoming a child of God you go to heaven. After so many afternoons talking to his he finally understood that he will be in heaven one day. We were so happy to hear him say that he believed in heaven and knew he would go there one day we rejoiced and praised God.

This man had an impact on my life, an impact so incredible that I can never be the same.
He put all his faith in God, and always gave him the glory.
I know that I need to have that kind of faith, and to always give the glory to God.

Even Jesus said all the glory goes to the Father.

As we spent our last day with Migesu we had what started out as offering him a glass of coke.
Then we decided to go get some more and invited everyone around to have a glass.
Our last night with Migesu, a sad but amazing night, where we prayed blessings and healing over him.
Than we said our good bye.

So to Migesu, you will forever be in my heart and prayers.
Your words and the memory will always be with me.
And if we don’t see each other in this life.
We will rejoice together in the next.
