As to be expected, I have been receiving a number of questions from inquiring friends and family about all sorts of things World Race related. I love and welcome all questions and would like to take a minute to answer a few of them:
1.) “When are you leaving?”
- I will be leaving in early January. The exact date has not been given to me yet, but I’m thinking within the first few days.
2.) "How does the lodging work within these countries?"
- Lodging within each country will vary month to month. Each racer will be prepared with a tent, sleeping bag and mattress pad for whatever conditions await us 🙂
3.) "Are you traveling with a large group of people?"
- YES and NO. As of now there are 62 people in the sqaud for my specific route (January 2013, Route 2). From my understanding I will be traveling country to country with my squad but once arriving in country we are split into our smaller teams (7-10 people). This team will be who I live day to day and serve alongside with for the entire year. At the end of each month all the teams reassemble and travel to the next country together only to split up again and again.
- We will be assigned to our smaller teams at Training Camp in October.
4.) “When I donate to your trip, where is the money going?”
- Valid question! Here are some fun charts & stats on donations towards the trip:

Actual Figures:
Training Camp–$320
Field Support–$620
WR Development Program–$1,860
Administration Fees–$2,635
World Racer–$10,075
65% of the funds go towards my expenses for the 11 months.
Here is a chart breaking down those expenses:

Actual Figures:
Intercontinental Travel – $4,235.00
Food – $1,256.25
Lodging – $1,758.75
Transportation – $1,005.00
Long Distance Travel & Misc. Supplies $1,115.55
5.) "Do you have to raise ALL the money before January?"
- No, Thank God! The World Race program has given me specific financial deadlines:
- $3,500 – Due 9/29/2012 (2 weeks before Training Camp) (2 months to go!)
- $6,500 – Due 12/18/2012 (2 weeks prior to my trip)
- $11,000 – Due 4/1/2013 (End of 3 months on the field)
- $15,500 – Total Due 7/1/2013 (End of 6 months on the field)
6.) "How much have you raised so far?"
- Well, thus far I have rasied $437. If you are curious of my progress, I will constantly be updating my Fundraising Thermometer under the 'About Jolene Campbell' link on my Home Page.
7.) "What are you most nervous about?"
- I wouldn't use the word nervous… more like aware. It's a dangerous thing to ask God to break your heart for what breaks His. I am aware that over the next 11 months I will see brokeness, pain, sorrow, hunger, disease, hopelessness, anger, fear and bondage. All emotions and faces I will never be able to forget.
- Just about everything. I am trying my best not to have expectations. I genuinely desire for God to do what He wills with my life through this journey. I am looking forward to experiencing God in ways that I have only read about. As I wrote above, I am aware that there will be a lot of heart break on this trip, but I am even more confident that with the heart break will come restoration and redemption.
Well, I think that is enough for now, thanks for asking and thanks for reading. Stay tuned for FYI Update #2.
Gearing Up,
Jolene
