Hello!
A little bit about me,
My name is Johnny Russell I am from a small town just outside of Nashville TN called Gallatin. I have a Sports Management degree from the University of Tennessee. I enjoy working out and just about any sports imaginable. If you are reading this than by now you know that I have been blessed with an amazing opportunity to serve on an 11 month mission trip to 11 countries starting in October 2016. My journey to the World Race began while I was in college. About 5 years ago I made the decision to go on my very first international mission trip to Mexico, my life hasn’t been the same since. I got the opportunity to see and feel things that I didn’t know existed and I also got to experience God in ways that I didn’t view possible in my small Tennessee bubble. I was given the opportunity to develop relationships that I cherish to this day. I began to reevaluate what my purpose and my outlook on life was. I began to really seek God and ask him what he had planned for me. Needless to say it was nothing I could have envisioned. Fast forward to about two years ago. I was looking into mission opportunities, I had already returned to Mexico for the second time and felt that it was something I was being called into. My goal was to find someway I could use my sports management degree in the mission field. So I began looking into different organizations. Through my search I stumbled upon a mission trip called the World Race. I thought that going to 11 countries and getting the opportunities to spread the gospel as well as be fully immersed in all aspects in ministry, being that I did not have very much experience in it. However I have never been away from home longer than a week and I did not have the courage at the time to sign up for it. Last summer, the summer after I graduated college Missions was something that was pulling on my heart. I met with a missions coach from a different organization and was still considering the World Race. I also during this time spoke with a Mentor about all of this and she was more than supportive of whatever decision I made, she believed that if it was something I felt called to do then I should go. However I still did not have the courage to go. About September or October of last year a friend that attended bible study with me had a prayer request for a girl he knew that was serving on a year long mission trip and it was called The World Race. For the Record I had never mentioned to him that I was looking into it myself. Sometimes God strategically places people in your life for a reason. I don’t believe that it was a coincidence that this girl would soon join our life group upon her return.
A few extra things about me:
I am 25.
I have one older sister.
I am usually caffeinated and awkward.
I love making people laugh.
This is the beginning of an incredible journey for myself and the team I will serve with. I would like to welcome you to be apart of it and experience it with me.
