BLACK FRIDAY
As some of you may know from my previous blogs that Marissa and I are helping to plant a church here in Raleigh. As with all new church plants, it is a slow and arduous process to find good launch team members as well as regular church members. We are striving each month to grow our launch team so that we will be prepared to officially launch the church on Easter Sunday. During this time we want to get the word out to Raleigh and we want to take an active role in service projects in the community. Therefore, the night before Black Friday, Thanksgiving night, the church got together, bought, and individually wrapped 1000 Krispy Kreme donuts! We added a small flyer about the church as well as a flyer about a toy drive we were taking part in. Needless to say, we all ate too many donuts that night and the dogs got sick from licking 80 or so empty donut boxes. The very next morning, at 3:30 AM we met again to distribute our 1000 donuts throughout Raleigh. We split up and headed to the malls. I couldn’t believe the lines outside of all the stores. There were certainly plenty of people hoping to get a great deal that morning, and even if they didn’t, they at least got free breakfast. It didn’t take long at all to distribute the thousand donuts. It was pretty interesting to see how people reacted. At first when we asked if they would like a donut, most people seemed uninterested. It wasn’t until the words “free” and “Krispy Kreme” that people went crazy over the donuts! -haha I guess it goes to show people know the Krispy Kreme name and they love anything that is free. Aside from people asking if we had free playstation or x-box games, it was a great early morning. It was nice to here so many thank yous and to get a chance to talk a little bit about the church. We are not sure if the donuts will bring people to Fellowship Raleigh, but we are committed to doing acts of service and expecting nothing in return as I hope we all can take time to do in our busy lives, especially this Christmas season!
