Something I have been learning throughout my race has been the importance of truth. Jesus himself says that He is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). Jesus is literally truth. He is also referred to as the cornerstone (Ephesians 2:20). So Jesus is our foundation and that foundation is truth.

Our lives as followers of Christ should be built on truth. Knowing the truth of who God is and the truth of who we are in Him is crucial. Without knowing this it can be so easy to allow satan to whisper lies. If not put in check these lies can become apart of who we think we are.

Truth is so important that Paul includes it in Ephesians 6 when he is telling us to don the Armor of God. Something God has been teaching me lately is that the belt of truth is no accessory, rather it is necessity. Our armor is not for defense against the enemy, it is for offense.

Can you imagine running into battle and all of a sudden your pants drop around your ankles and you fall flat on your face? We remembered to dawn our armor, but the belt we forgot. We thought we were ready to face the enemy being sure of our salvation, protected knowing that our God is righteous, our faith being strong enough to block the flaming arrows of the enemy, our shoes of peace used to spread the good news fasten securely to our feet, our sword to slash through and defeat the enemy in our hand, but ultimately we got bogged down by the lies.

This is what I realized had been happening to me. The enemy would tell me that I wasn’t good enough, that I am broken, and those lies set me up to fall on my face in the midst of battle. There is not one specific story or instance I can point to, but I became aware of these lies. I would focus too much inwardly trying to fix myself, but what I learned was there was nothing to fix. This was all a distraction from what God really thought about me.

Stand strong in who you are. Do not forget to strap on the belt to hold your pants up.

The truth is that God is from everlasting to everlasting. He is all powerful, glorious beyond comprehension, and wonderful in every way. The truth is that God loves us. He sent His only son for us. In psalms 139 it says His thoughts are precious for us, that they cannot be numbered, and in fact they outnumber the grains of sand on the earth.

The truth is that we are his children, his sons and daughters, we are warriors, and we are made in His image. This is the truth we don when putting the belt of truth around our waist.

Belt of Truth

A seemingly unimportant accessory,

The Belt, to often overlooked.

Satan likes to twist the story,

The lies, to often accepted.

What use are pants around the ankles,

They cause stumbling, strife, and hurt.

With truth we can advance full force,

Surefootedly vanquishing the powers of hell.

Jesus, the way, THE TRUTH, and the life,

Your truth brings healing within me.

The truth of who I am is found in you,

A child, a son, and a warrior of The Most High!
