I have gotten quite used to saying goodbyes for extended periods of time. Working at Camp Ozark the past few summers I have gotten the opportunity to meet friends from all sorts of distances. With those friendships being formed over an entire summer together there is always a point at which a goodbye must come for possibly a year or so at a time. I’ve learned that it is more like saying a “see ya’ later,” than it is a real goodbye.
However, it’s a little different when your saying bye to go across the world. Especially when those byes are going out to parents whom you haven’t gone more than three months at a time without seeing (I guess that’s what happens when you’re the favorite kid). The goodbye was undoubtedly hard, but knowing that I walk with my heavenly father brings comfort. He is a heavenly father who I have witnessed in the daily acts of kindness, love, and passion that my earthly parents have carried out my entire life.
So while I walk in faith during the coming months with God I know he will provide that motherly love he knows I’ll need. Not to worry though momma I will be skyping in when I can to show that I’ve still got all ten fingers and all ten toes.
My Squad fly’s out this morning at 6:00 AM (Tuesday the 16th) from Atlanta. From there we will have 48 hours’ worth of flights, connections, and layovers. Our route is Atlanta > Denver > Los Angeles > Shanghai > Singapore > Australia. By the time we arrive in Australia we will have jumped a day ahead and it will have technically taken us three days to travel.
Prayers for safe travel, that all the luggage makes it through each flight transition, and that our economy plane seats serve dinner as we fly over the Pacific. My next update will come next week when I will be in Australia and can share the ministry I have been connected with. Thanks to all who have supported my journey this far.
