A heart of compassion
When I began my journey for this mission trip I began to search my heart and figure out why I wanted to go. My main purpose is because I know the organization Adventures in Missions works with orphans and for the longest time I have had a desire to help orphans. In Mozambique which is one of the countries the organization will be going to has a large population of Orphans. According to UNICEF AIDS is a major cause of orphans in Mozambique. There is an estimated 1.6 Billion orphans in Mozambique. Many of these children are exploited and abused.
God makes it clear in James 1:27 that He cares about the poor and destitute. In our culture, we seem to devalue these individuals. I want to be one that God uses to bring hope to each person I encounter. To see children who are broken, hungry, or abused breaks my heart. It’s not enough to just see awful situations in our world and feel bad. In scripture, everything Jesus did was because he had compassion for the lost.
