Delhi been great thus far. The orphanage we are serving at is a wonderful place. Their behavior, their hugs, their speech, their grace to allow us into their world have gone beyond our expectations of what we were going to walk into; this being our first month on the race and all. To be honest, it took our team off guard. We had no idea the entire staff would treat us like family so quickly. The kids and the staff have been great. Even though we haven’t been here for too long, they’ve embraced us with open arms. Since the winter has been pretty cold, schools have been canceled. Our time from morning til evening is filled with playing with them, helping them with homework, and leading their evening devotions. Although it might not sound like much, as a team we know that we’ve already helped the staff (five people) in their everyday tasks. They do so much for these kids already that we hope that since we’ve been here we’ve been able to provide the staff with some time to rest and relax. We pray that that’s been a way to minister to them.
As tiring as the kids are, its hard not be around them. Their smiles, laughter, and playfulness is contagious. They’ve taught us how out of shape we are in. Their energy is, so say the least, endless. What’s most amazing is their joy life. Their happiness is not found in objects or self-worth. They simply love God, care for one another, and are happy.
We were a bit hesitant at first to even teach a new song, or lead a lesson. Now we eagerly wait for evening devotions to sing the songs we’ve taught them, teach them new ones, and even lead a Bible story. These kids learn fast. They picked up a song one night and they still emphatically suggested singing it during evening devotions. They are always lovingly shouting for us to teach them more songs. The other night they sang “Sanctuary.” I was amazed at the fact that these kids, ages 2-16, had their eyes closed in full worship to Christ. My mouth dropped. Their reverence to Him is astonishing. I can’t really describe what I saw; there’s something unexplainable about it.
