My last blog left you with a cliffhanger, so I begin this blog in sharing our ministry location: Delhi. In my heart of hearts, I hoped our ministry contact would be close to home (in Andhra Pradesh) so I would have a chance to see family in India. Coincidentally some teams are very close to home…jealous. As I wrestled with this I began to understand that maybe it might be good to go somewhere else outside of Andhra Pradesh. For instance, I wouldn’t overpressure myself with language (knowing some Telugu, but not enough to be fluent),and Southern rural Indian culture. But, of course, its all about God, not me. Who am I to argue with God on where He sees me and my team doing ministry. Eitherway we are to bring light to where God wants us to and has called us to bring light. So Delhi it is then.
We are going to be partnering with a local orphanage of about 35 kids (ages 2-16). Apparently a couple folks from our squad have done some ministry with this local organization too. So that was nice to hear. They had some really good things to say about it. The kids here are great. If I could sum them up in three words I’d say “bundle of energy.” I run out of breath trying to keep up with them. Since we just here our plan is to just play with the kids for now. I think its a matter of getting settled and being told as to how we will be ministering to this ministry.
India’s winter is unreal. Delhi is so COLD – about 30 degree Fahrenheit. What’s worse is that I can see my breath when I breathe. You’d think it’d be somewhat warm being so close to the equator…not at all. I hope my body can adjust to being cold everyday; I don’t handle cold weather very well. Besides, didn’t I just leave the blistering cold of Chicago hoping for the warmth of India? My winter continues on.
