Last Sunday in our worship service, even though the worship band was leading in Hungarian, I knew most of the songs they were singing and would sing in English from my seat. But, in the moment of my singing the Lord really did a reversal kind of questioning on me. Have we ever really thought about what we sing? That when we sing at all in our worship that it’s actually a declaration, or should be one of what’s true to our heart.
When God says, “They honor me with their lips but their hearts are far from me.” I don’t want my life and my worship to be an echo of that verse. So God began to speak to me in that moment and had me write down the songs that we were singing in a question type way. I challenge you to this sometime, and then to look back at what you’re singing in church and ask yourself these things, because I’m sure they become much heavier to the hear than you realize.
The Questions…..
Do you want to know me?
Do you want to see me?
Do you want to touch me?
Do you want to see my face?
Do you want to know me more?
Do you really want to hear my voice?
Are you really lost without me?
Am I honestly the air you breathe?
Am I the daily bread you speak of right now in your life?
Are you really desperate for me?
Is there really none like me to you?
Will you always give the praise I deserve?
Am I your comfort?
Am I your shelter?
Am I really your tower of refuge?
When you’re weak, do you come to me for strength?
Will you worship me without ceasing?
Does nothing really compare to the promises I have for you?
The promises that when you call, come, and pray that I will hear you?
The promise that whne you seek me with your whole heart that you will find me?
The promise that you are my child, saved, and redeemed?
The promise of the Spirit and the greater things
in you to do my will on earth?
Who am I to you? For I am the I AM
He says to me: I stand forever, I will never be moved, before there was: I AM. And when the curtain closes: I AM.
All things are from me, I am to high for your logic, I am too low for your pride so get low. I am too far for your sin, it will always be much more than your mistakes; my grace knows no ends, but it cost me everything. In my Son there is all of me and you are in him. For I am to be feared above all things, but my compassion and love is jealous for you. To know me, the I AM, is to worship me, and all else fades away. You are mine, and never will I be unfaithful.
