Meet Alfred Wright! He is 102 years old!!! Our team was at this small town called Higgin’s Land. After visiting a local church, we were able to walk around town and talk to locals. We got to see their day to day lives, get to know them and share our testimonies.
We were being guided by some of the women at the church and we ended up at this wonderful man’s home. We were greeted by hugs, smiles and excitement! There was so much joy in him! He is being taken care of by his youngest daughter, we were told that His wife has just passed away a couple days ago.
He was talking so much when we greeted him! I guess he doesn’t get too many visitors. He was full of joy!! One of the ladies said He knows a lot of church songs, so we all started to sing hymns. He was only able to remember the songs if we started to sing them. So as we held his hands and started to sing, he began to sing with us. Tears started to fall down from his eyes as he smiles…
My heart was full. How can this man, at his situation, given everything that’s happened, be so evidently joyful just by the simplest thing of being and spending some time sitting with him.
How often do I miss opportunities like this? To just be a friend to someone. To sit, talk and just share that moment with them and not be so caught up with my own self….
We were truly blessed to spend the afternoon with such an incredible follower of Christ. Seeing his life gave us such hope. His ministry is not over yet… to a younger generation, he was able to show us that joy is not found in the things of this world, things that can be taken away, but from the unfailing love of Christ that causes this man to give him praise at 102 years old!!!!
