Was taken to an abandoned train station for ministry. This is where the poorest of poor live. These people are desperate, and to take precaution, we didn’t bring a bag, money, or anything of value. Even so, it was important that we constantly watched each other so as to make sure nothing happened. With our white skin, it would be very easy to assume that we had valuables. After about an hour of praying over people, we left that desolate place with more smiles than when we came in. I found out later that it is apparently a common practice for Buddhist monks to ask for money when they have prayed over people, so that alone would have been a relief to the people to have free prayer.
Talked with some monks today, one of which called Vanna. He talks about how he considers leaving the monkhood, so perhaps there is opportunity to reach him. Be praying for him!
Chinese checkers is still a huge hit at the hospital. It is crazy the number of people there who have legs blown off from landmines. It is sad to think that the time we come to play games may be the only time they get to have a bit of relief and enjoyment. In this particular hospital, there are many Christian helpers, but it is not allowed to openly share the Gospel. If it were allowed, Buddhists could come in and set up altars with incense which would be a big health issue. Pray that these people might be curious and ask why we come to help. If they ask, then we can answer.
