Cooking rotation started today. I’ll be doing this in the mornings and it’ll take over my morning ministry a bit. Might only get to do outreach a few times until I’m back on normal schedule.

Kids didn’t show up to class for Noah and I. Not sure if the teacher was understanding what I was saying when trying to plan the classes. After waiting, Noah and I thought we could make it home in the light sprinkle without getting too wet. Don’t trust monsoon season weather if you plan to stay dry. About halfway back home, it started to pour rain and the streets started to flood. Made it home with only our backside dry because we were on bikes.

After dropping off some valuable things that shouldn’t have gotten wet, we went to get some street pancakes. Getting to the pancakes wasn’t too bad. Only had about 8 inches of flooding in a few spots. Getting back, though, was more difficult. Half of the road was about knee deep in water, and waist deep in the rest. We had to walk our bikes back home because it was almost like trying to ride in a river. All traffic was basically stopped save a few large vehicles, and shops designed for bad flooding were still flooded. I know it was pretty bad when the locals were taking pictures and looking at the water in amazement. Good thing I had a Noah with me in the flood, cause we found some dry ground and made it home only 45 minutes late.

There is something about that flood that brought absolute joy to Noah and I. It was cold, we were totally soaked from head to toe and getting wrinkled fingers and toes, we were hungry and tired. Still, we somehow found total bliss in the midst of no control. We had nothing to worry about, and took the storm as a fun challenge. It’s easy to ask God why we go through the storms of life, but perhaps it’s to have us get rid of the things we hold valuable so we can see that there’s more to life than what we have. Without my team phone, backpack, or even a poncho to make me think I could avoid getting wet, I was able to just take in the moment and find fun in what was going on because I wasn’t trying to keep things safe. Maybe those things could be actual things, or maybe they could be your status, job, or hobbies. With the less stuff I have on this trip, the more I’m finding joy cause all I’ve got left is God and the people He has put into my life.
