Hello,

Thank you for checking out what remains of my old World
Race blog. For archival purposes, my blogs have been removed. Thank you in
advance for your understanding.

I was on the August 2009 World Race with what was then
called ‘K Squad.’ (The first time World Racers were divided into two groups
because of rapid growth and logistics) There were 40+ people per ‘squad’ Our
team of 6: (4 girls and 2 guys) ended up being named ‘Team Phoenix.’ We were
also living out of our backpacks the whole time and had a budget of appx. $1.50
a day to eat off of (clearly, at my size [6’5″ 190lbs] I sometimes had to
supplement my food intake with my own income/support from family members). tWR has made significant changes since
then and it continues to grow!

Below is the route we took. Some of the following
countries were pass-throughs, overnights, short visits, etc. but I am trying to
keep them in chronological order (If my memory serves me correctly) and the
specific countries/areas are only the ones I personally visited (and may vary
from my teammates slightly). There is also no need to go into details per
country of what we did because others have blogged about it better than I did!:

 tWR
was amazing and ‘life-changing’ but not for the feint of heart or someone only looking for a vacation (More work
than play and sometimes there are ‘difficult’ situations and people including
fellow World Racers). I believe it is still 21+ years old to go and you must be
of a particular religious background, be accepted by interview, and go through
multiple training processes (to determine teams, maturity level, beliefs,
support, encouragement, “How to’s,” etc). Obviously, if you’re at this website
you might have some idea of what The World Race is all about! Take the plunge
if you think you can handle it!

Sincerely,

Joel Keifer Williams
