To begin we made it safely to South Africa! We started our travels with a 5 hour flight from Kathmandu to Qatar, followed by a 6 hour layover in Qatar. We then had an 11 hour flight from Qatar to Johannesburg, followed by a brief 16 hour bus ride from Johannesburg to Cape Town. We then finally made it to our final destination of New Hope Jeremiah! Needless to say it was an exhausting two and a half day journey.
Once we arrived in South Africa it was rather a relief. We no longer had to worry about suicidal taxi drivers, and by that I just mean crazy drivers with little to no regard for life… And by that I mean no real driving laws, and drivers who believe in communication through the horn. When we arrived, we were greeted by paved roads, roads with actual lines painted on them, robots, better known as stoplights, and traffic laws! Needless to say the bus ride was smooth and we could sleep soundly and peacefully.
So far it’s just day two, but life here is pretty good! There is one drawback however, they don’t want the windows open at night due to cockroaches possibly flying in… That is something I do not want to experience, or wake up to! However I did have a cockroach run across my foot as I entered the bathroom at 3:30am.. Well, that’s it for now!
