It’s our squad
debrief time. “Papi” and “Mama C,” our coaches, are in town
to facilitate our team debriefs. Debriefs are like a dentist
cleaning. And this is the first one we’ve had as Sofia. Some of us
are a little nervous, but we have good attitudes about it. We’ve
only had one major confrontation and just a few small ones. We are
an easy-going, lighthearted bunch.

There are four questions we always get asked during debriefs. And everyone has to answer.

1. Is this a safe team?
2. Are you using high courage in confronting each other?
3. Are you using high consideration in confronting each other?
4. Do you prefer each other over yourself?

Actually, we rarely get through all four because the first two bring up so much crap.  In a good way though.

Guys,
I think this verse is interesting,” she says, “in light of our
debrief coming up today. Second Corinthians thirteen, verse seven.
This is why I write these things when I am absent, that when
I come I may not have to be harsh in my use of authority-the
authority the Lord gave me for building you up, not for tearing you
down.'”

“That’s good,”
says Grant. “Thanks for sharing that.”

Wow,
I think,
that was intense. I hope it’s not that big of a
deal.

But actually it
would be okay if it was. A good dentist cleaning can protect your
teeth from cavities for months. A good debrief, where you get into
the hard, stubborn crap in relationships, can clear up resentment and
hidden anger and engender a lot of respect.

So wish us luck.

Oh, and tomorrow is
Thanksgiving!

To my family and
friends,

May God bless you
and keep you. May you have much to give thanks for, and may you give
it with joy in your heart.
