Hey friends!
I have made it to Guatemala. Currently I am living in a house with two other tams on my squad. There are 21 people living under one roof and each night I get to have a slumber party in a room with 14 girls.
Each day I get up in the morning to go to ministry. I along with 4 other girls in my house volunteer at a preschool. I spend my time helping the teacher and make sure none of the kids escape. That is a real thing. Guatemalan preschool is crazy. There are no rules and there is total chaos. Children literally run around all day tackling each other, but its awesome. There is something so special about watching kids just be kids. Its pretty tough with the language barrier to communicate with the teacher and the kids in the room but it has been really cool building relationships with these people without using words. To be hugged each day by kids I have not even had a conversation with and to be told countless times by the teacher how thankful she is each time I hang a poster or cut up crafts for the day is an incredible blessing.
Since my ministry is in the morning I have some time left in the day to hang out and do other things. We live in an area called San Pedro. Sometimes we just walk into town to see new things and sometimes we get to meet new people. The other day a few team mates and I bumped into a man doing some yard work. We said hello and learned that he was trying to learn English so he could come to Canada and earn more money to bring back to his family. So we ended up walking him into town and learning Spanish as we helped him practice his English, then later we got to meet his wife and see where he lived.
Other days we take the bus into Antigua. These buses are usually packed 3 to a seat with people sandwiched together in the aisle with loud music cranking. Those buses are definitely my favourite thing about weekends.
Right now I am just learning about what it is like to walk through life with Jesus. I am learning to take each day as it comes. One day at a time without any pressure of what is to come. Sometimes it’s hard but I also know God asks us to do it out of obedience regardless of how we feel. I would love if you could be praying for me as I learn more about Jesus and who I am in him.
