Five popular questions that YOU should know the answer to!
1. So when are you actually leaving? Where are you leaving
from?
I will be launching SEPTEMBER 4 from CHICAGO. Since I have
been appointed the finance leader for my group, I will be arriving the 4th
with the team leaders, other team finance leaders, and squad logistic leaders.
The rest of the squad will be arriving in Chicago on the 5th. We
will spend a short amount of time in Chicago attending sessions and having team
bonding time before leaving the states. This time is called “launch” and will
expand from our time at training camp.
2. What country are you going to first?
I have not received official word on the exact date I will be
leaving the states; and what country we will be traveling to first. First on the
agenda is scheduled to be Zimbabwe or Botswana; but unknown factors could change
the plans!
3. How are you holding up? Scared, nervous, stressed, excited?
How do you pack for this trip?
I AM SO EXCITED and
ready to serve with my squad and team!! The World Race gives suggestions on how
to pack; World Race alumni also give helpful hints in their blogs about how we
can prepare for what we will need. I will have one internal frame backpack and
one day pack and enough clothes for about 10 days. I will have a netbook for
communication and other miscellaneous electronics and items with me. I must
admit, it is a little terrifying to think these are all the possessions that I
can bring from America for the next 11 months!! The all familiar line keeps
popping in my head when I get worried: LET GO AND LET GOD.
4. Are you having a good bye party of any sort? Can I see you
before you leave?
Ummmmmm YES OF COURSE. If you are in the area, on Sunday,
August 26 at 1 PM until about 5 PM, I will be having an open house style party.
It will be at the Veldhuijzen house in Byron Center, MI. The pool will be open;
there will also be volleyball and other activities. Food will be provided! It
would be awesome to see YOU there. See the facebook event on my profile for
additional details. Questions? Email me [email protected],
contact me through the blog, or facebook message me.
5. How are you doing raising funds? When do you need to be
fully funded by?
$11,658.05 has been raised! Praise God! I have raised the
necessary funds to launch with my team. I need to be fully funded ($15,500) six
months into the race. Thank you for financially supporting me in this trip; I
appreciate it so much. God is good!
***The reason for the top amount showing $13,658.05 is because in June 2010 I went to Haiti with Adventures in Missions and needed to raise $2,000. ***
