My mom is one of the most important people in my life and I have missed her tremendously these last eight months. As racers we had the opportunity to invite our parents to join us on the field for a week in month 7 (Rwanda). Although I thought it unlikely, I invited both my parents and hoped against hope that they would come. I asked many squad-mates to join me in praying that my mom would be able to step into the freedom that the Lord offers her and face the many fears that would stop her from coming to PVT (Parent Vision Trip). God is faithful, He hears our prayers, and I was blessed to work at building the kingdom alongside my parents in Kigali, Rwanda in February.
Here are some musings from my mom during/after her time on the mission field.
I am Here! Rwanda, Africa!
Before this amazing adventure to Rwanda, I had never flown. NEVER! It is a miracle!
Fear is a powerful motivator. Fear has kept me from doing a great many things I should have done. It had me doing things I dreaded. Fear had me immobilized by an elephant standing on my chest. Pressure and pain! I wanted the elephant off!
I desperately wanted to go on this mission’s trip. I wanted to see my brave beautiful daughter, whom I hadn’t seen in seven months, and wouldn’t see for four more. I wanted to experience ministry like she was. But, fear and doubts swam in my mind constantly, until they nearly drowned me. Days off? Flights? Immunizations? Passport? Visa? Money? I may never know how many people prayed for me, but I will forever be grateful for them; the people and the prayers!
What would I have missed if I had not gone? The sweetest reunion ever! Stories, smiles, songs, dancing, laughter, tears, testimonies, worship, ditches dug, repaired roads, hugs, new friends, miracles and changed lives including mine.
Rwanda is a beautiful place with beautiful people!
I am home now, and you would think that things might go back to normal, but I will NEVER be the same again.
I even got to see the elephant that had been standing on my chest. Thanks for getting off! Elephants are not meant to stand on people, they are meant to stand on the African plains!
