Life is simple.
My life has been simply contained to the orphanage property, and the store across the street with a choice of three drinks. My clothes are washed by hand; no fancy machine necessary. Evenings are spent in the dark because we do not have enough power to run the lights. My favorite spot to sit is on the porch looking out towards the mountain with our flee infested dog napping by my side. Kids ride up and down the driveway on bikes so large they can’t sit on the seat and reach the peddles at the same time, laughing all the while, simply enjoying life.
This has been my life for the past month at the New Hope for Orphans Orphanage in Kampot Province, Cambodia. Here they house twenty two beautiful, smiling kids. They do not live an extravagant life, nor do they apologize for their simplicity.
Simplicity is embraced.
Simplicity is celebrated.
Simplicity is something I dove into head first.
In the simple life I found time to read my bible. In the simple life I found time to go to bed at 9 every night. In the simple life I unplugged from my connection to the outside world for a month. In the simple life I watched the sunset every night, and rode bikes through rice fields. In the simple life I colored, journaled, read my book, and gave many kids many back scratches. In the simple life I loved simply.
I don’t know when the next time I will have the opportunity to live in such a state of simplicity again. It is virtually impossible to simplify life to this point at home, with our gadgets and ample available choices. I am not saying that all we have been blessed with at home is at all bad, but I am beyond grateful that I got to live life this way in the country that has captured my heart yet again.
Love,
Jill
Heading into Cambodia, we had a team change! My new team is Team LL:PT and they have been my family all through Cambodia, and will continue to be in South Africa. I would love if you could pray for us as we continue to move forward as a new team, and for prayer as we travel from Bangkok, Thailand to Johannesburg, South Africa on December 6th!
