On the morning after our month one debrief, my team and I were waiting for our ministry host to arrive to take us to Balaka to do ministry with Destiny Ministries International for the month.
With month one over and done with, I felt like I was beginning to see how God really shows up, but I was unsure of what to expect for month two.
Our ministry host arrived, and I knew in that moment month two was going to be a completely different experience from my first month on the race. His name was Apostle Andrew, and within the first 20 minutes he prayed with us. While he prayed, I heard true conviction in that month, a true conversation with Jesus. I knew in that moment that this man knew God personally, and that God had a wild ride for me in the weeks ahead.
On the drive to our ministry site in Balaka from our debrief site, Apostle Andrew began to name off different ministries we would participate in during the month, and almost everything on the list was something I had never done before, and I found fear and pride creeping in the form of the feeling of inadequacy and being overwhelmed.
I, along with many others on my team, had never done prison ministry, taught Sunday school, spoken to youth, preached in front of a congregation, lead bible study, done door to door evangelism and church planting, cast out demons, or prayed healing over people.
Within the first 2 days of being in Malawi, faced with the daunting task of participating in all ministries listed above, we had a team meeting to dicuss how we were feeling. There was a common thread, the feelings I had been feeling of inadequacy and overwhlem hung over our group like a cloud. But, one of my team members reminded us all of something important: God does not call the qualified, He qualifies the called.
Here I am, 3 weeks later, proclaiming that the Lord is good, and with the holy spirit we are adequate, and the sense of overwhlem having no power over me. I spoke to prisoners and some of them were lead to Christ, I shared a bible story at Sunday school, I preached at a church service, I lead a bible study, I went door to door and spoke with people about Jesus, helped to bring Christ to an area for church planting, cast out a demon, and saw people being healed.
Now that I am standing on the other side of the month, I see that God qualifies us. I clung to that idea the whole month, seeking Him for direction, seeking Him for strength, seeking Him for words to say, for the words He wanted me to share with others.
“It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God.” 2 Corinthians 3:5 NLT
