Serving in Thailand was not what I expected. Many times teams serve in the red light districts in various cities in Thailand, and upon hearing that, that’s what I expected. But, that’s not what I got.
Instead, my team had the opportunity to serve with YWAM in a city called Khon Kaen We worked alongside them evangelizing at night markets, doing prison ministry, working with their orphanage, and visiting hospitals where women were recovering from drug addictions. What a shift of mindset.
If I learned one thing in Thailand, it’s that all you really need to do is serve with a willing heart. I’m not sure if I made that phrase up, or I just heard it through some Christian book or sermon, etc., but it’s true. It’s a vital truth about the Race, and not just about our ministry, but our lives.
The enemy wants us to be tired by the 100+ degree days. He wants to isolate you and keep you from seeking help from those around you. He wants you to complain when your ministry is something like cleaning the house or dancing in front of a crowd. He wants you to get frustrated by changing schedules and upset plans.
But that’s not what God calls us to do and that’s not who He has called us to be. He has called me, and all of us on the Race, to be willing. That’s it. Willing.
I know I did not do my best in Thailand to be willing, to have a willing heart, to be a true servant of my wonderful God, but now my eyes have been opened. So look out second half of the Race. I’m ready and willing.
