This month we have been partnering with Mission of HOPE here in Haiti! They are an awesome non-profit organization located in Titayen, Haiti. It was founded by Brad and Vanessa Johnson in 1997. They felt led to come into Haiti and help every woman, man, and child to get to know about the love of God, and to empower Haitians to help their own Haitians by educating them, providing them skills for them to develop into jobs that can provide for their families. Mission of HOPE or MOH also has an orphanage that now has 62 kids, who are so sweet and are being raised with the love of God!
MOH is located in Titanyen. Titanyen is a really hot, almost desolate, dessert kind of place, that is dusty all the time, and generally no crops grow here because of the climate and the dirt. Titanyen in Creole translates to “less than nothing”. Which is how the people who live here felt like, as if they were not able to grow any agriculture to sell or sustain themselves. However with the help of MOH, more agriculture has grown as they have educated and implemented teaching programs to give people the opportunity to learn to grow crop and they have empowered Haitians to learn how to use what they have available to them and make it profitable.
Another awesome ministry that MOH has is that they have built schools throughout Haiti. MOH actually has a school on its campus. And through time they noticed how the children had so much malnutrition that they even had a hard time focusing on school. And based on that and with a lot of prayer a lunch program started in their schools.
MOH has a lunch feeding program on their schools in 11 different villages throughout the country, in which of of that program 91,000 Haitian kids get fed every day.
Students in their schools have a teaching curriculum program called “Mwen Kapab” (creole), which translates to “I Can”, which comes from Philippians 4:13. Mwen Kapab is Critical thinking program infused with the gospel. Teaching the kids that they can do everything that they put their mind into as long as they put God first in all their plans in life. And it has helped them greatly by giving them self confidence and reminding them of how smart they are. And students in their education program test in the 5% of the nation above average.
There are about 2500 kids in the HOPE schools. There is an AM session and PM session. They get sponsored for $35 a month and the parents pay $3-$5 a month too to help cover for their daily meals.
MOH also has a clinic on campus, which it opened in 2005. And since MOH wants to continue to be empower Haitians to grow and to be empowered by Haitians and not depend on the help of missionaries, by 2010 the clinic was fully run by Haitians. And for only $5 Haitians can come and seek medical attention. And while people wait to be seen by the doctor, on their waiting room they have the blessing to hear the Gospel!
They also have a mobile clinic which goes into the 11 villages and provide medical care as well.
One awesome ministry that recently started in MOH, is the prosthetics lab! They have helped over 230 people with their amputations and by providing them their prosthetics. Most of the amputations mainly were from the earthquake and now from car wrecks too. And this help is provided for free!
