Madysen is my four-year-old niece. She’s also one of my most favorite humans on the whole planet. She is sweet and funny and caring and adorable and super duper smart. She teaches me a lot.

We have a bedtime ritual for every time we have a sleepover. First, we send videos telling stories to some of our friends. Next, we choose a book to read. The last few sleepovers, Madysen has chosen the Bible.

Last night, we read about Jesus calming the storm and talked about peace. We talked about how God gives us peace, which means we don’t have to worry. We also talked about how the reason we don’t have to worry is because God takes care of us.

Today, Madysen and I had a picnic at the park, and she asked me to bring the Bible again. We read about Noah and Mrs. Noah.

“Mrs. Noah may have been surprised to hear that Mr. Noah was going to build a boat and take their family on it. It may not have fit in with her plans, but when she heard that it was God’s command, she obeyed.” Little Girls Bible Storybook

Madysen: Titi Jessie, can you tell me when you obeyed God?

Me: Sure. You know how I am leaving in a couple weeks to be gone for 11 months?

Madysen: Yeah. I’m gonna miss you a lot.

Me: I’m gonna miss you, too. That’s why it’s hard for me to obey God this time. Because I’m going to be gone from the people I love for a while.

Madysen: Yeah. But Titi Jessie, you don’t have to worry. You can have peace because you know God is going to take care of us!

Sweet, sweet girl. She doesn’t realize how much God takes care of me by letting me take care of her.
