Hello lovely friends and supporters!
I wanted to take a moment and show you some snapshots of my month in Vietnam so far. We are volunteering at Donkey Bakery, which is on the outskirts of Hanoi. Our first two weeks were lived under constant gray skies, misting rain and general damp fog. We were told that the sun does not come out in Hanoi until April, but have been pleasantly surprised to have two days of sun in a row now!
foggy rice fields outside of Hanoi our first sunny rain-free day since coming to Vietnam
Donkey employs mostly disabled and handicapped people and our work this month has varied a great deal from helping introduce new recipes in the kitchen to teaching English to the front store staff, photographing food, working on some large administrative projects for the bakery and even learning Beatles music to play for the employees before we leave next week!
I was able to introduce American cinnamon rolls to the bakery menu and they are already including them on their outside catering orders!
We have each been stretched in ways that we did not expect. There has been a lot of stepping outside of comfort zones and being willing to embrace tasks that we did not have a natural confidence in. God is faithful though and he will equip you for what you step out in faith to do!
I can’t believe our time here is already beginning to come to an end. Vietnam has been a continuation for what I felt God teaching me in Cambodia. That ministry is not about “doing” but just about loving the people God puts in your path every day and being a faithful steward of the opportunities that come your way, even if they don’t fit into what your assigned ministry for the day was supposed to be.
Keep us in your prayers so that we can finish strong and leave this place having accomplished what God had in mind for us when we came.
p.s. I will have more photos in my Vietnam newsletter : )
thank you for reading!
~Jessie
