It seems as though I’m at that point in my life when all of my friends back home are entering into the wedded bliss chapter of their lives. Ok, if I’m being honest, I’ve been in that stage for almost a decade now.

So this got me to thinking about marriage relationships and honeymoons.

Now let’s think about this in terms of our relationship with Jesus. The scriptures say that we are His bride and He is our bridegroom (John 3:28-29). That is the beautiful type of relationship that our Father calls us to have with Him. As I reflect back on my life and my relationship with God, it is obvious to me that I haven’t always been as close to Him as I am now. I accepted the Lord into my heart at a young age, but I was never really mature enough or put enough effort into actually having a relationship with Him. I poured my heart into all the wrong places and after I finally came out of my spiritual coma, God was still waiting for me. He was calling me to a more intimate relationship with Him.

So, a few years ago, we started a new relationship. One where I can now say that I love Him, whereas before and during my childhood, I never took the time to understand this love thing for myself. The way I think about God now has changed. I feel like I am literally on an 11-month honeymoon with God this year. I get to travel around the world and see breathtaking scenery with Him. I get to spend all day, every day completely focused on Him. Isn’t that what honeymooners do?

I think everyone who has a relationship with God should go on a honeymoon together. He is waiting! You will grow even closer than you could ever imagine and create memories that will surely last a lifetime.
