Hey friends!

I’ve been making a list of things I have found interesting since being here in the Philippines, and thought I could make a blog of it. So, here is a little list of fun Filipino facts

•The Philippines has the highest electricity cost in the world. Also, our electricity comes from a volcano.

•Instead of saying yes, they raise their eyebrows and that means yes

•Spider fighting is a thing here

•There is black sand, white sand, and yellow sand. We have black sand where I am.

•The strongest typhoon ever recorded to hit land hit where I am back in 2013. It was devastating beyond understanding.

•Being “on time” isn’t really a thing.

•There are dogs EVERYWHERE. (& I love them all, even if they don’t love me)

•Chickens roam around, and many people have them on a foot leash in their yard. Some also have pigs and water buffalo.

•There isn’t one main language. There’s two: Waray-Waray and Tagalog.

•Allergies aren’t common here. It’s made me think that somehow, someway, not surprisingly Americans have so many allergies because of all the processed food.

•The stars. So visibly we can see Orion’s Belt and the Big Dipper.

•The way we signal “come here” in America with our palm facing the sky and moving our fingers means “come here to fight” in this culture. So, you signal with your palm down, moving your hand almost like an animal would when they dig.

•Gas is pumped for you

•They really like cheese flavored ice cream. I don’t.

•Food scraps don’t go in the garbage. They go in a bucket that they give to the dogs.

Also, here are some words I’ve learned. Though I’m not sure if they’re in Waray or Tagalog or both

•Good morning: maupay nga aga

•Good afternoon: maupay nga kulup

•Good night: maupay nga gab-e

•Thank you: salamat

•How are you: kamusta

•I love you: mahal kita

•Hot: mapasu

•Beautiful: mahousi

•Okay: segay

•Friend: sunkai

I’m sure I completely butchered some of the spelling. Oops.

Thanks for reading ??
