Malaysia was my last month. Yep, you heard me. Due to circumstances outside of my control (unrelated to the World Race), I have returned to the U.S. a few weeks early.
The week leading up to my departure home was bittersweet. I was a bit antsy to get home and see the family, but I also felt like I was letting the team/squad down by leaving early. It was hard to stay focused as I prepared to buy plane tickets and make plans to re-enter life back home.
My team was amazing, though. They checked in on my daily, asking how I was feeling and handling the situation. Once we returned to Kuala Lumpur to meet up with the rest of the squad, they celebrated my birthday early: they prayed over me, took me to dinner and we watched a movie. The morning I left, we went to breakfast and they ALL accompanied me to the airport for final goodbyes. A donut, more prayers, and a journal with notes, scriptures, and prayers from the squad—yeah, I felt loved. It was suddenly real, and really hard to leave them. It was hard knowing that the community that we built over the last 10 months was no longer close (although they are only a text/phone call/email away).
I know the Lord has called me home, and I’m excited to be able to surround my family as major changes happen over the next month. Most of all, I expect great things to happen during this Month 11, even in a different location than planned!
