Y’all, the Bible is great. Not only is it God’s Holy Word and the perfect foundation of wisdom, but it’s also funny. Like, really funny.
Let me tell you about what I read this week. So, I’m trucking through Matthew and I stopped in chapter 13. There is a lot more you could take from this passage, but here’s what struck me today.
So, backstory. Jesus has been walking around preaching, teaching, healing people and what not and He starts teaching this crowd that gathered around Him near the sea. He goes out on a boat and starts preaching in parables about all sorts of heavenly things. As always, Jesus’ teachings are golden, but I love the disciples reaction to all this.
In verse 10, they ask Jesus, “Why do you speak to them in parables?” And he answered them, “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.
So, He teaches in a few more parables, and later, the disciples ask Jesus to explain the parable of the weeds in the field to them. He talks them through it and in verse 51, He’s like, “Y’all get it now?”
I really just love this passage because I see myself in the disciples. One minute I think I know what the Lord is doing, and the next, I ask Him to break it down for me. And, in His grace and inclusivity, He pulls a imperfect, flawed, often confused and unaware, sin-filled me to join Him in His glorious plans.
Jesus is literally the most awesome friend you’ll ever have. He wants to include you in His plans. He wants to talk with you and spend time with you. He loves with grace and He knows you better than anyone ever will. And, His plans are really, really good.
