So here I am, sitting in the Atlanta airport after 3 days of “Launch” at one of the hotels here in Atlanta. Launch could probably be better referred to as Training Camp 2.0: Hotel Style and was just a lot of sessions, worship, team time, etc. to help prepare us for the field, much like training camp. I have to admit I am just ready to leave and get out there and experience because we have sat in SO MANY SESSIONS during both training camp and launch. This girl is pretty sick of wondering what this whole World Race thing will actually be like and how I will actually react to everything, so I just want to GO!!
Our first flight leaves around 6:30 tonight for Newark, NJ. We have a three-hour layover and will then take off for Cote d’Ivoire, Africa around midnight!! FINALLY. The flight will be close to 10 hours, and we will arrive around 3pm. We are 6 hours ahead of central time.
My team will be in the city of Abidjan (where we fly into) and will be doing some sort of children’s ministry. We do have a host but am unsure of where specifically we will be staying. It sounds like we will be cooking our own food for the month (shoot…) but I guess it will be part of the experience and might end up being more fun than I think.
If you’ve been curious about what in the world I packed for 11 months, below is a picture for your enjoyment. And yes, it all fit! I’m sure my bag will get a lot lighter as I decide which things aren’t really useful and as my supplies get depleted, but you really can’t know what you truly need until you’re there, so I didn’t want to risk not having some things. My big pack weighs around 35 pounds, which honestly is not too bad considering some people have bags weighing close to 50 pounds!
