Rain Shower has taken on a whole new meaning on The World Race. For those who know me back home, I claim to melt in the rain … I hate being in the rain … I hate being wet in my clothes … I just don’t like it. You should see how quickly I can move from point A to point B if it’s raining … Not even kidding.
Well, anyways … Water Shortage … has also taken on a whole new meaning the past two months. In Uganda we would go days without water and now in Rwanda we have been days without having running water, and sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures.
So here’s the deal, it had been raining constantly here for like a day and a half from drizzling to downpours, and we hadn’t had a shower in a few days, right? So Friday, after morning (impromptu) tea, we decided that there would be sufficient water coming off the house to go shower outside. So Tom, Laura, Liz, and myself decided to throw our bathing suits on, grab our shampoo and head outside.
We have learned that team showers are totally acceptable on The World Race and way more fun than the typical bucket shower we have been partaking in for most of Africa. I’m pretty sure last month when we went to a hotel to swim and used their showers with warm-ish water, that was my favorite team shower day … BUT Friday’s rain shower was also enjoyable.
Anyways, on The World Race you learn to be resourceful and to find the best “drip spotâ€ with the most water coming down to be sure you can effectively lather and rinse. Just be careful not to use too much shampoo, in case the rain quits. So anyways, I had my first outdoor shower experience and I am pretty sure I will do it again. So don’t mind me when I get back to America next year if when it rains, you see me grab some shampoo and head out the door.
