I have finally found something I am truly passionate about on The World Race …
The past two and a half months I have been doing various ministries from treating jiggers, to teaching Sunday school, to leading workshops, to preaching, to speaking at crusades … But none of these ministries have felt like “this is it!
I have been praying for God to give me a ministry that I felt I was called to, that I felt so passionate about, that I couldn’t wait to return to … a ministry that made all the hard times worth it. A ministry that changed lives. A ministry that I feel confident in. A ministry that is more than just being the white person paraded all over Africa.
Then it happened. It came in the ministry that I wasn’t excited about. It came in the form of the ministry that I have been praying not to have. I am supposed to teach English back home, but teaching English is not easy for me. I didn’t want to teach English when I came on this trip. I hated being labeled the “English Teacherâ€ here. Give me a construction project, give me anything but teaching, especially teaching English. But then we taught English.
We started teaching English to nursery school (4 — 6 year old) children in the mornings every day this week. Are they crazy and do they struggle to pay attention? Yes. Do I want to scream sometimes when they keep saying a “Kâ€ is a “Dâ€? Yes. But then there’s those times when you see them smile. When you see them grasp that “Dâ€ says “Duhâ€ and “Dâ€ says “Dogâ€ … “Woof Woof.â€ In those times where they get it, it makes it worth all the times they don’t get it. The joy they have as they learn to pronounce words and as they learn that when I say “My name is Jessicaâ€ they reply with “Your name is Jessicaâ€ even though they want to just mimic and say “My name is Jessica.â€
Teaching in the mornings has been such a blessing, the hugs and the love the kids have for us is precious and it makes me excited to be with them every morning. But even more than teaching English to the little ones, I have found a love in teaching English to adults. Yesterday afternoon we began an English class for the adults that we will do on Wednesday and Friday, and in that time I really fell in love with teaching English. The adults desire it, they want to know how to speak and comprehend English. They are so focused and so willing to go through the basics with us. We split them in groups, and I worked with our contact Pastor John on numbers and how to spell them. Some worked with adults on learning the alphabet and how to say different words that start with the letters of the alphabet. Its concepts that we think are simple but here they are learning a foreign language and what we think is easy isn’t actually that way. But I truly feel like I could teach English all the time and be completely content.
Our ministry this month is my favorite so far, and I hear that in Asia we will have the opportunity to keep teaching English, and I know that I have been called to teach English on The World Race, and my time teaching English has just begun.
I need to finish this Race because I have many more countries to visit and to minister to, because God has made me for this. I am made to be an English teacher here. I am made to teach about Jesus. I am made to love the children here. I am made to finish what the Lord has started in me.
I have an urgent plea, I need $3500 to come into my support account in the next TWO WEEKS or I will be sent home!
I can’t go home yet, and I need your support!
Could you give $10 to help me continue loving on the children in Asia? Could you give $20 to help me continue teaching English in Asia? Could you give $50 to help me continue spreading the Gospel in Asia? Could you give $100 to help me speak life into women and children trapped in prostitution in Asia? Could you give any amount to help me stay on The World Race?
I need to get the amount of support I am going to receive into AIM as soon as possible, so would you please message me (link can be found under my picture) with how much you can donate and when you expect to be able to either donate online or by mailing a check with “Jessica Walton — August WR in the memo line to “Adventures in Missions to:
