75 DAYS since I’ve had a drop of caffeine … whaaaaaat? Prior to this caffeine fast, I had sweet tea running through my veins, I am from the South after all! I love sweet tea. However, I was challenged to give something up until I reached a certain goal – $6,000 – see that blog here.

Now this was supposed to be the blog where I said – WOO! I have reached $6,000 … I am boarding the plane for Kenya … and I am indulging in a Mc’D’s Large Sweet Tea …

However, I have not quite reached that elusive goal … but, I truly can’t complain – the Lord has blessed me with the newest current amount raised with donations and pledges totaling:

$5,772.92

So how much is left to raise, you ask?

$9,027.08

But this past month has definitely seen some big things happening:

1) I sent out several press releases to different newspapers, AND one newspaper (The Journey Christian Newspaper in Western, NC – www.journeychristiannews.com) has graciously decided to feature my trip in the upcoming June publication! So keep your eyes peeled for a future blog with that link!

2) Journey Christian News also provides the opportunity for a monthly Christian Business Fellowship lunch where various businesses and ministries can join together for a time of devotion, business/ministry presentations, and networking. I just discovered this opportunity a couple days ago when I was going to the used bookstore to pick up my copy of The Journey, when the bookstore owner at Lighthouse Bookstore in North Asheville (shout out!) mentioned that this may be an opportunity to look into, and it just happened to be that the once a month meeting was the same week I had discovered it. Thanks God. Oh and I had just been trying to figure out how to get businesses involved in supporting this ministry. Anyways, today I went to that meeting and I had the opportunity to network with about a dozen business/ministry people. I felt so welcomed and had the opportunity to share about my trip and distribute my information, and I truly believe that God is going to pour in blessings to those businesses and ministries.

3) On the Gear Front: I now have pretty much everything I will need for my trip except stuff sacs, a footprint, and dishes – plus just some random odds and ends. Oh and I need to decide on what I will use for a day pack. But I am definitely the proud owner of an REI Backpack, REI 2.5in Self Inflating Sleeping Pad, Kelty Grand Mesa 2 Tent, Sleeping Bag, and a Head Lamp!

4) On the Immunization Front: About that … not yet!

5) Finally, on the FUNDRAISING FRONT: I am about to go into the summer season, aka doing all sorts of random stuff to try and raise all the money I can for my trip before I leave! Some of the fundraisers I hope to set into place in June and July, include:

Hot Dog Lunches

Produce Stand

Yardsale

(donations still being accepted – message me!)

Spirit Nights @ Chic-Fil-A

Selling MORE Bracelets

Speaking at Churches

Etc…

So there you go … that is the update on the craziness that is my life right now … Oh and in the next week I will be moving out of my apartment and then will be going to …

TRAINING CAMP!!!

(May 21st – May 29th)
