Dear Friends and Family,
For the past four years, I have been blessed with the opportunity to study at Grand Valley State University, and travel abroad to study for a summer in China. As most of you know, I grew up in Assen, The Netherlands where I attended an international church. Growing up in this community opened up my eyes to the many cultures and wonderful people that God has placed all over this earth. As I grew older, I felt God place the desire to go on a mission trip to reach out to His people in my heart. I just did not know where to or when this would happen. A couple of years ago I heard about this mission trip called The World Race. I immediately felt that someday I was going to be called by God to go on this trip. After several years, I graduated from Grand Valley, and I now feel that God is telling me that it is the right time to go.
The World Race is a Christian mission trip through a non-profit organization called Adventures in Missions (AIM) focused on changing people’s lives with God’s love. It is an eleven-month journey to eleven different countries. I will be traveling with a squad of 40 to 60 people who will be divided into smaller groups of five to seven people while overseas. The ways I will be volunteering on the race will vary depending on the country. The kinds of ministries we will be involved with are: education, orphan care, and care point feedings in Swaziland and South Africa, working with street kids in the Latvia, caring for victims of human trafficking in Thailand, ministering to women and children trapped in prostitution in India, working in a rehabilitation centers in Cambodia, slum ministry and door-to-door outreach in Burma, and much more! My squad will be going to the following countries: Swaziland, Mozambique, South Africa, Estonia, Latvia, Thailand, Cambodia, India, Nepal, Vietnam, and Burma. Many people would love to help make a difference in these areas but because of their commitments to a career, a family or otherwise, they are not able to physically serve on site. However, you can help and you can make a difference! How? By supporting me through this mission opportunity you will have a direct impact in the lives of people in need.
While on the World Race I know my challenges will be physical, emotional and spiritual, but currently my greatest obstacle is financial. Racers are required to raise monetary support and in order to leave fully funded in January 2015 I need to raise $16,243. This money will cover all of my field expenses for the eleven months of my trip. I am writing to boldly ask for you to consider partnering with me, financially and prayerfully, as I take this large step of faith.
