Chickfia. I could eat there 7 times a day. Where the people laugh and children play; oh I’m in love with Chickfila.

While I cannot claim those inspirational words as my own, comedian Tim Hawkins and and shares the same passion for the chicken and waffle fry combo as I do. Not only do I love them for their tasty milkshake treats, I love them for their mission mindsets. Last night, they let me host my second percentage night to raise support for the Race. The only catch was that I had to bring 100 people. So I asked some guys from my church’s youth to play some tunes, open mic style. Travis Spencer, John Smallwood, and Josh Cook (not all from West Ridge) stepped up to the plate and played some sweet songs, everything from John Mayer to Dave Crowder. The cool thing about them playing is that I had never met them before I asked them to play. They just volunteered! They selflessly volunteered their time and talents all to help me raise money and eventually bring glory to the father.

I love that. I love meeting new people and working together to bring glory to our Heavenly father. So thank you new friends, for your sacrifice!

As far as old friends go, I’ve had the amazing opportunity to reconnect with some friends from my childhood since I moved home. One family in particular, the Tanners, loaded up their cars, packed up the kiddos and came to Chickfila to support me and the Race. One of the members of this family, Aimee, (who is now married with 2 kids) used to babysit me and my brothers. That’s right, she know all of my childhood secrets. Those elementary crushes, where we hid M & Ms to eat without mom knowing, and where my barbie closet was (yes I had a barbie closet I would play in- don’t worry, now its just the door to Narnia–that’s more dignified, right? I mean C.S. Lewis is a brilliant man.) ANYways, she came. She totally rallied her troops and came to Chickfila with the night. This is what I call community in its truest form. People rallying together to support each other. It’s like in a goofy movie when the whole school is chanting, “max, MAX, MAX, MAX!” Louder and Louder. That is community (even if it’s for him to sing a song…anyone?)

Rally behind each other my friends; as believers seeking one mission: to further the Kingdom of God. That is one thing this support raising gig has taught me; that we need to support each other and live in true community with one another. Well, that’s not what I intended on writing, but that’s what came out! I’ll take it. Until next time friends…
