observations of mexico…

they trick you.  what i mean by this is, as you are driving along in the mountains…you come across these people hanging out under canopys.  they are on both sides on the road and are holding a string.  as you approach them, they raise the string so you stop.  (well us “gringos” stopped anyways).  as soon as they see you slowing down, these kids mob your car and literally are reaching in your windows trying to sell you bananas or other random fruit.  we learned that you just keep driving, and they will put the string back down.   🙂

they cut their grass with machetes.  yes.  these random swords are even sold in grocery stores.  as you are driving along, you will see people out hacking away with these frightening things.  odd?…yes, but kind of funny too.

every house looks like a rainbow.  i dont think i have seen a solid white house yet!  i think it is required for each one to include at least two primary colors…and then its based on your preference of more after that 🙂  obviously, its the culture…but interesting to observe!

mexicans are the most hospitable people!  its amazing how they instantly become selfless and will do absolutely anything to serve you.  and with this is sacrificing all they have…for you – who they dont even know!  we need to learn this in america!!

oh, and tomorrow is the start of the race to guatemala.  i dont think we will be able to start the volcano hike until friday morning though.  you have to be back down by sunset, and since its 4 hours up and 4 hours down…we might not make the cut off.  BUT i do need your prayers…  because yesterday, after we climbed to the top of the myan ruins…i couldnt talk for ten minutes.  shutup.  🙂  and it was only like 50 steps and took maybe 3 minutes.  so yes, this will be a challenge to say the least!

i will post as soon as i can…keep checking to see who wins!!

lotsoflove 🙂
