here we are…day 4 i think of being drilled with this insane tropical storm. it has been literally pouring non-stop day and night. homes around us are being flooded and as we stood on the roof this morning, we could see people walking around their yards and the water was up to their knees. as we were driving back from the closest town yesterday, we saw many fields and roads that were flooded. it didnt really start rising in our area until last night and this morning. thankfully as we speak, and i look outside our little internet cafe in teapa, the rain has stopped. we were unable to go into the villages yesterday because we would have had to swim to the houses. oh, and before you get too worried momma…our street is ok, and our house is built a bit higher above ground.

this picture is taken off our roof. please keep all the families in teapa in your prayers as many need miracles to save their belongings. i am hoping within the next few days before we leave for palenque, we will be able to head out and help others restore their homes. God works in so many ways we may never understand…but our prayer is that through this hard time, many will reach to Jesus.

so
we have been trying to figure out a way to say thank you to pastor javier and his family for hosting us the past two weeks. as we sat around yesterday, we decided to go into town and make them an “american dinner.” we picked up stuff to make lasagna, salad, garlic bread, brownies, and cupcakes. and let me tell you, it was hard to find the stuff to make all this. i wanted to make chocolate chip cookies, but no baking soda, chocolate chips, crisco, etc. haha. and this was from a walmart we found in veramosa! anyways…as we were taking everything out of the bags back home, the family was curiously digging through things and checking out the labels. NEVER HEARING of LASAGNA…they asked our interpretor what it was! i couldnt believe it. the little girls were drooling over the box of chocolate cake mix and the barbie cupcake foils.

i was already so amazed at how different our cultures were! so we put together a couple pans of lasagna, made the brownies and garlic bread. then came the salad. we werent sure who liked what, so we decided to have all the toppings on the side, and then they could put whatever they so desired on their salad. well…they dont eat salads. and werent sure what it all was. so nobody took anything! hehe. actually a couple people took a couple cucumbers on the side or maybe a tomato. we were all laughing, and quickly told correy to tell them what it was. they still seemed a little confused and kind of put something together as they laughed and walked away. it all turned out really well though and they asked when we were cooking them another meal! oh, and i think i forgot to mention, but we made dinner for the whole drama team too! total maybe 20 or so heads 🙂
one more thing about mexican culture…anything goes for any meals. today for breakfast we had ham sandwiches with tomatos and some red sauce. the other day it was hamburgers. haha. needless to say…each meal is a fun surprise 🙂
before i head out…i just wanted to thank my momma and sister on here for going to every extreme to have my new camera mailed to me in time! it had to be in the mail overnighted yesterday, and wasnt even being delivered to my house in ohio til yesterday… therefore they had to try and track down fed-ex, ended up having to drive an hour away to pick up and sign for the camera and then turn it around and have it mailed immediately to make the deadline. they are the BEST and i would be lost without them! thank you guys a TON!!
i will keep you all updated on the water situation here…and am trusting that God is going to bring many more into His kingdom despite the devastation.
all my love…
