Kim and I had a nice little treat last night! We crawled into bed around 11pm incredibly wired from all the pop we had earlier on that day. As we sat there laughing, we decided to have a Matthew night

What I mean is, we watched “How to Lose a guy in 10 days.” Its definitely a cute chick flick, and any guy that likes it probably wouldn’t admit that he does. This movie is an all time favorite of my roommate Christy, my sister Katy and mine. So we were up for a bit last night watching it on Kim’s computer. I also must add that I think I sleep more one night here than a week at home! It’s been so great getting to bed at a decent hour and waking up around 8. Very refreshing! I’ve also really enjoyed the available time to have my “quiet time” reading and praying. At home, I would spread myself too thin, too often … and I think sometimes neglected to just sit in the stillness. It’s amazing what happens when you refocus your priorities, and make time for things that are important. I love that the culture here in Mexico has no sense of time. Church can start at 9, 10, 11… When we venture off into the villages, we will spread the word that we will be back around 5 or so to play games, do dramas, etc…and in reality, nothing might happen until 7. It has helped me a ton to become more patient…as I have always been such a quick paced girl. Ok…I still am to an extent…but I’m a work in process!!

Today we headed back into the village to put on a little performance for the children and then had the pastor prepare a sermon for everyone. The first skit we did was five of us stood in a row with our backs to the crowd. One of the members of the church here played a clown and also the narrator. He was supposed to be a young boy who was looking for happiness. We each represented some sort of false idol that people often seek after when trying to fill the void in their life that only God can. So I was first and played a punk teen who listened to rap music and had to dance around like a lunatic…hehe. Then the next guy was a motorcycle driver who was racing around dangerously. Paul was next and he was supposed to be a “famous person” who everyone supposedly admired. Hugh was next and he was a sports star who ended up “punching the clown”. Lol…as I type this it sounds really funny and random. After Hugh was Kim and she was a preacher who shared the Word with this boy looking for happiness. His end message was how he found the joy he was looking for by drawing closer to God. Although it sounds a bit cheesy, the kids loved it, laughed at us a ton, and also understood the message!
Then the drama team, Laura, and Jessica did a couple songs and dances before it started to pour. Everyone ran to shelter til it passed. Pastor Javier finished it off with a great message and many came forward for prayers. Awesome!! Tomorrow we are going to do the same thing in another village. Oh, and we also have balloon animals for the kids. What I want to know is where is the cotton candy?
“If we have a purpose of our own, it destroys the simplicity and the calm, relaxed pace which should be characteristic of the children of God.”
“Replace the mirrors that surround your life with windows, so that you can see Him and other people more than you see yourself.”
I love you all bunches and will write more soon…
(and if anyone sees my niece around…please give her a kiss for me!!)
