Last Christmas, starting on December 1st, every day I posted a “Christmas song of the Day on” facebook and Twitter. On Christmas day, I posted the full list of all 25 songs, and I wanted to post it again this year!

Normally I would revise the list to add the new Christmas music of this year, but I’ve made a sad discovery– I can’t listen to my favorite Christmas music right now. How sad is that! But that’s exactly why– it makes me too sad.

I have a rule that I can’t listen to any Christmas music or watch any Christmas music before Thanksgiving– it makes it less special if you listen to it throughout the year! It has to start feeling like Christmas, so that the music and the feelings of Christmas are perfectly associated. When I listen to my favorite songs, I have to wait until the perfect moment– when I’m driving and looking at Christmas lights, when I’m putting up decorations, when all the lights are off except for the tree, when I’m with my entire family for some holiday gathering. So when I tried to listen to a couple songs the other day, it just didn’t feel right. It’s 80 degrees in this room, I’ve got multiple fans pointed on me, none of my family are here, and there are no decorations except a marker board that says “Merry Christmas”. It just doesn’t feel like Christmas!

Don’t get me wrong– I absolutely LOVE where I am right now. I love this country, I am obsessed with my squad, and I love where the Lord has me– so maybe I should stop trying to make it into something else. I think I need all new Christmas music this year– so that for the rest of my life, when I listen to that music, it will take me back to that incredible Christmas I spent in Thailand with my incredible squad family.

So next Christmas, I’ll return to the old “home” Christmas music. For now I’m just going to have to explore and find some all new “Thailand Christmas” music! In the meantime, enjoy this list from last year– all of these songs are amazing!
