Throughout the Bible there are many scriptures that refer to God as a lion. Many of those scriptures were brought to life for me during the month of ministry in South Africa. Our ministry hosts blessed us with the opportunities to go on a game drive and visit an animal lodge. They also took us on a safari to the world-renowned Krueger National Park. It was an experience I will never forget.

“As a lion growls, a great lion over its prey – and though a whole band of shepherds is called together against it, it is not frightened by their shouts or disturbed by their clamor – so the Lord Almighty will come down to do battle on Mount Zion and on its heights.” -Isaiah 31:4 NIV

“They will follow the Lord; he will roar like a lion. When he roars, his children will come trembling from the west.” Hosea 11:10 NIV

In the apostle John’s account of the scroll and the Lamb he writes:

“Then I saw in the right hand of him who sat on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals. And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, ‘Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?’ But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth could open the scroll or even look inside it. I wept and wept because no one was found who was worthy to pen the scroll or look inside. Then one of the elders said to me, ‘Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.’” Revelation 5:1-5 NIV

All glory, honor and praise be to the name of Jesus – the Lion and the Lamb!
