To read about the Unsung Heroes we met during our first week of travel, check out my blog titled, Songs of the Unsung Verse 1.

During our team’s second week of travel, we connected with five additional ministries meeting more Unsung Heroes.

Here are their songs:

Mighty Rivers (Siquirres)

Mighty Rivers is a ministry that works hard to develop sustainability on the land of the eco-farm where the ministry is housed, while also reaching out to minister to those in need. The community in the jungle promotes holistic health care and family oriented fun. There are times of worship, praise, prayer and spiritual mentoring as the Mighty Rivers team seeks to be a shining, local expression of God’s universal family.

The tranquil aspect of a jungle setting, the freedom of Costan Rican culture, along with the warm hearts of the people, all combine to make the farm a special place that our team thoroughly enjoyed.

During the time we spent at Mighty Rivers we assisted with a few small projects around the farm, enjoyed a swim in the river, ate lots of ice cream from the shop on the eco-farm and got a lot of much needed rest from all the traveling!

Concrete Jungle Skate Park (Puerto Viejo)

Concrete Jungle is a skatepark ministry with a community of Unsung Heroes who desire to follow Jesus in both word and action, while serving the people of Puerto Viejo.

The skatepark exists to demonstrate God’s love in a physical way by providing a place where local youth can have fun in a safe and clean environment. The youth also have opportunities to learn about God through sharing of the Bible, movies, games and other activities.

Our team had the wonderful opportunity to participate in Friday night skate, where we had the opportunity to hang out with the young skateboard pros and gain a beginner’s knowledge of how to skateboard.

Also, during our time in Puerto Viejo, the Concrete Jungle team introduced us to two additional teams of Unsung Heroes that have the potential to partner with World Race teams in the future.

Central American Ministries (Jimenez, Limon)

Our last stop on the Unsung Hero train was Central American Ministries (CAM) – a missions retreat center started eight years ago by husband and wife, Lovett and Alex Overstreet. The purpose of CAM is to provide a place for churches, organizations and schools to come for a time of being refreshed and renewed. The mission of CAM is to live for others because living for others is what we are called to do.

At CAM, our team helped build a fence and played with Lovett and Alex’s 11 dogs! We took advantage of the serenity of the retreat center to do just that – retreat.

This month was filled with God’s provision. From free meals and free lodging to traveling mercies and establishing long-lasting relationships – God blew my mind and continues to do so I as lean and depend on Him.

I have been so encouraged by the people we’ve met along the way – their love for God and His people are an inspiration to me. And for this, these verses are for you.

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:13-16
