One night, during the month of ministry in Cambodia, I ran my hand across the right side of my neck and felt a gum ball-sized knot that I had never felt before.
I freaked out for a moment wondering what this could be and immediately began praying for healing for whatever it was. I thought that maybe I had strained a muscle in my neck from working out, but this didn’t feel like a strain.
The knot didn’t hurt too badly. It was only when I turned my head that I felt minor pain. More than anything, I was annoyed at the sight of this thing on my body.
Taking full advantage of living with six prayer warriors, I immediately had my teammates pray for me. We believed that whatever this was in my neck would go away by God’s healing power.
A few days later, I bought some medicated patches that you use for muscle pain, strains and aches. I began applying them to my neck every night and soon the knot was decreasing in size. This was great. But though the knot was getting smaller, it was still there.
I continued praying for healing and did not worry about it. I had decided that I was not going to go see a doctor about this. Visiting a doctor in a country foreign to me where I did not speak the language, scared me more than this thing in my neck! And besides, why go see a doctor when I have direct access to The Great Physician.
We finished the month ministry in Cambodia and moved to our next country, Malaysia. Not only was the knot still there but it had increased to the size it was before. One of my squad leaders, Nikki whose background is in sports rehabilitation, was with my team for the month. I showed her the knot and after feeling it, she diagnosed that it was probably a cyst.
I had grown to believe the same thing but I didn’t want to speak it.
I continued praying, anointing my neck with oil and a peace consumed me. I wasn’t worried because I believed that God would heal me.
The funny thing is – all year I had been praying to see a miracle. Not because I haven’t seen one before. I have indeed witnessed God’s healing power in my life and in the lives of my family. But I had been praying to see a miracle because miracles are awesome. I thought, how cool would it be to watch someone’s leg grow in front of me or to see someone’s sight be restored from blindness or even to see someone be raised from the dead?
The month of August ended and it was time for our squad to reunite for our month eight debrief. During our team’s session, I was asked what my “low” for the month was, I shared my annoyance with this cyst but that I believed God would heal me.
After our session, my six prayer warriors rallied around me again and as they laid hands on me I could feel the power of God working in my body! My body was on fire and I knew it had nothing to do with the temperature outside.
After we finished praying, I touched my neck and the cyst was still there but I now felt something new. About a centimeter from the cyst was a small bump that felt like a bug bite only it didn't’ itch and there was a pin-sized whole in the middle of it. This was definitely God and I knew healing was taking place.
The very next day, the cyst had dramatically shrunken in size! Praise God!
As it turned out, the miracle I wanted to see happened in me! And it’s just as cool as someone’s sight being restored or someone being raised from the dead because it’s only by the power of God that these things happen.
Today, I am cyst-free and the bump that was next to it is no longer there. I like to think that its existence was merely proof from God that he drained out whatever yuck was in me.
I give God all the credit and glory for His miraculous healing in my body!
Is there a miracle you want God to perform in your life or the life of someone you know? It’s simple, believe in faith that He will do it and then watch Him work.
I’m a witness that He is still in the miracle-working business.
