We had 3 teams in Georgetown on Penang Island. We partnered up with YWAM and were involved in several ministries through them.
We were given a list of ministries and tried to put people in the ministries that they felt most passionate about. Some people raised money at a hospital or taught English. Part of the Racers helped out a homeless shelter and a thrift shop. 2 people had the opportunity to put in some long hours at a Christian art center in town called LUMA. I was blessed to be able to volunteer at a newly opened coffee shop called Just Caffe.

The coffee shop is an extension of a ministry called PenHOP (Penang House of Prayer). If you’ve ever heard of IHOP in the States then you’ll know what I’m talking about. In a nutshell it’s basically a 24/7 prayer movement. There is so much more to it than that, but that’s a big part of the heart behind it. Just Caffe is a sweet little coffee shop right across from a local college and surrounded by tons of business people, especially lawyers and stock brokers. It’s an amazing outreach to the local community, and Jesus is just doing so many cool things through it.

I had the privilege of serving in the cafe for the first 3 weeks of it being open. I absolutely fell in love with the ministry and the community there. Have you ever been around people who just “get it?” Well, these are those kind of people. They hear from the Lord. They really do. They know the challenges of life and are overcomers because of their love for the Lord and obedience to Him. They speak the truth in boldness but covered in love and grace and live radically different lives than the 60% Muslim population around them.
Jesus just totally blessed me the last month on the Race. I had ministry that I loved, a beautiful island to live on and a fabulous community to be a part of. I felt loved and accepted. I truly felt a part of the Body there. I
fit. I felt wonderfully filled up as I poured out. I couldn’t have
asked for more. My time with Jesus was deep and sweet. I heard Him speak like never before. I came to know Him in ways that I’d never experienced. I got to hang out with Jesus as the sun would rise over the ocean in the early morning before beginning work. I was at peace, thoroughly enjoying being in the moment and in His presence.

It was a vital reminder that the Father always has more for us. There’s always more. He absolutely blew me away my last month on the Race but I know His goodness doesn’t end there. I believe that the best is yet to come, whatever that may be. I believe that is true for all of us. Let’s choose to take hold of His promises today. Let’s live out of the fullness and abundance that He’s holding out for us as His sons and daughters. We have the Hope of the nations dwelling inside of us. We have more than we could ever ask for.
Let’s move forward with joy expecting amazing things from a good and faithful Father.
“When Jesus spoke again to the people He said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness , but will have the light of life.’ “
John 8:12
