“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”
Matthew 5:6
Hungry
That’s how I would describe the kids that we’re teaching
English and the Bible to this month.
They are sponges, just soaking up everything that’s put in front of
them. They are fast learners and are
anxious to put into practice the things that they’re learning. Learning a second language, especially
English, will really put them “ahead of the game here in Cambodia.

It’s not just book learning that they’re hungry for
either. We have Bible studies with them
in the evenings so after school and English classes with us in the afternoons
they come back in the evenings to learn more about Jesus. We sing silly songs with them and play fun
games, but we also bring the Word to them.
These girls and boys get out their Khmer Bibles if they have one and
their pen and paper and take down every note that we write on the board. They attentively listen soaking up the
English and God’s Word.
You can see it in their eyes, which hunger for more of this
Jesus that seems to be so absent in their homeland. Many of them, I’d dare to say most of them,
don’t come from Christian homes.
Buddhism is the predominant religion in Cambodia. I can’t imagine being in an overwhelmingly
Buddhist country as a child and deciding to follow Jesus even if my mother and
father didn’t. But that’s what they do
because they’ve tasted and seen that the Lord is good. They KNOW that what they’ve found in His Word
is the only the only thing that will satisfy them.

As I was looking out tonight at the 20 or so kids that were
at Bible study I thought about the impact for Jesus that they can have in their
villages and in their homes and schools.
How many different people do they interact with every day? How many other lives will theirs intertwine
in the years to come?
I love the heartbeat of this ministry that we’re partnering
with this month. Our contact, Ra, is the
one doing the hard work here. He’s the
one putting in the hours of teaching English and the Bible to the kids. The Lord is using him to empower this next
generation with a good education and a solid foundation in the Word.

Think about the wake that a boat leaves behind as it goes
across the water. That’s kind of what I think about when I think about the
impact that these kids can have in their homes and villages and in the country
of Cambodia. It’s exciting! Because they are being changed and moving
forward they are causing movement all around them. The atmosphere is being changed and
affected.
I pray that they stay hungry for Jesus, always wanting more
of Him. It’s also a call to me and to
you to be hungry for the things that Jesus is offering to us. It’s GOOD.
It really is. If you’ve really
tasted what the Holy Spirit offers then you know what I’m talking about. Nothing else compares.
Be filled today.
