Well, I know it has been quiet some time since I’ve posted a blog…internet in Africa has been scarce! Even now I don’t have the opportunity to write much, as I found an internet cafe to run into…we will be debriefing in about a week back in Nelspruit, South Africa, so please expect some blogs to be posted at that time!
Currently we (Team S’More and the rest of the squad) are back in Mozambique…we are on our 2 week ATL (ask the Lord) ministry time. Our squad leaders prayed into 3 options and felt the Lord leading our entire squad to Beira, Mozambique. We are staying at Mama Rita’s, a widow who cares for about 20 orphans. Our ministry these two weeks has realy been focused on her and overseeing a construction project on her small concrete home. We arrived to a rat infested home and we were all very disturbed when we witnessed rats crawling over some of the orpan children who were sleeping on the concrete floor there. We wanted to take action immediately on resolving the rat issue. So our team has looked into options and we have budgeted for some construction to take place on her tin roof (where the rats where coming in). Construction has already begun and new bricks are being layed as I type!
Prior to our arrival in Beira, Team S’More spent the past month working with Harvestors International Ministries, in the northern region of Malawi. We traveled for days at a time, pitching our tents, and living out in the bush. We teamed up with local pastors and assisted in daily teachings, preaching, door to door evangelism, and even held a 2 day pastors conference to wrap up our stay there. So many people have said that God has given me the gift of teaching, and I am so thankful for the opportunities that took place for me to practice using this gift!
The month prior to Malawi, Team S’More and two other teams spent the month in Vilanculos,Mozambique. There we lived on the property of our contacts, Jaco and Maria and there 2 kids. We assisted them with preaching at their church, Jesus For Africa, and various ministries, such as home visits, prayer walks, prison ministry and hospital visits. We have witnessed so many people put their faith in Jesus and decide to walk with Him while we were there…much more to come in my future blog!
Overall Africa has been hard….the living conditions are tough…squatty potties, bucket showers, the extreme heat and humidity, poisonous snakes and the occasional sickness (I was stung by a scorpion, had a worm in my foot, had an allergic reaction on my lips from a mango peel, to name a few!!) The Lord is teaching me a lot about perserverance, how to suffer well, and finding joy in all circumstances.
Please continue to be praying for me and my squad as we finish our final days in Africa before heading out to Southeast Asia for the last leg of the trip!! Can you believe its been 8 months already?!!
LOVE TO YOU ALL!!!!
