What was the first thing that the apostles did when they received the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost? They were led by the Holy Spirit to to devote themselves to the apostles teachings, to breaking break, to selling their possessions and giving to those in need, meeting in one anothers homes, to praising God together.  (Acts 2:42-47)  They were building a community of believers, united in faith and equally yoked.  Yes, we may refer to this as ‘the early church’, which it is, but God hasn’t told us to stop…in fact we are to continue to meet together even more as the Day of Jesus’ return is approaching, and doing so while spurring one another toward love and good deeds! (Hebrews 11:24-25).

One of the things that really drew me to the World Race was the community living aspect—an opportunity to do life with my brothers and sisters, the way God has called us to.  For the next 11 months my team will see each other without our ‘church clothes’ on. Living in community the way God intended is not dressed up…there is no putting on a smile and good attitude for appearance sake and there is no ‘Sunday best’ attire here. Community living is exposed and vulnerable…but that is the beauty of it; we’re vulnerable together. We’re utterly exposed, and yet completely covered in grace.

Here is a video that  Katie Roland , July 2008 World Racer, made about  living in community while on the World Race:
